Our staff of hydrologists, engineers, and geomorphologists apply state-of-the-art hydrodynamic, sediment transport, conceptual geomorphologic, and flood inundation models, along with GIS and field surveys, to create solutions for complex coastal issues at both the regional and site-specific levels.

At the regional level, we work on sea-level rise, sediment, and shoreline change. We identify sources and sinks of sediment and the transport pathways to reduce beach erosion. Using this information we develop regional sediment management plans. At specific sites, we design innovative soft shore protection, as well as traditional shoreline construction and armoring. We have assisted with the design and engineering of some of the most notable managed shoreline retreat projects on the West Coast, including Surfer's Point and Pacifica Beach, each designed to encourage functioning natural processes while minimizing coastal hazards and maximizing recreational opportunities.
