EXPO Light Rail Noise Impact Study

ESA Image
LA Metro’s 6.6-mile EXPO Line extension increases its service from Culver City to Santa Monica, adding a total of seven stations. The new light rail operates along the right-of-way running roughly parallel to Olympic Boulevard, passing in front of a highly sensitive theater property in Santa Monica.
ESA evaluated noise and vibration impacts associated with construction activities and train operation to address concerns of potential disruptions to the theater. The analysis included noise monitoring from within the building as well as outside to establish ambient noise levels.
As part of our recommendations, we suggested the installation of improved window glass to mitigate train noise impacts on noise-sensitive uses inside of the building.
