    The first phase of the Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, the largest restoration project on the West Coast, was officially opened at a ceremony attended by Senator Diane Feinstein and California Resources Secretary Lester Snow. The former Cargill Salt pond, now part of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, is being transformed into a thriving wetland with islands for birds, new trails, and wooden walkway for the public.
